Greenhouse Effect and you
What everyone should know about the greenhouse effect, global warming and climate change:
- It’s happening now
- It will affect our economy and lifestyle as well as our environment
- It’s happening far more quickly than first predicted
- The main cause of the greenhouse effect is pollution from burning carbon. Carbon dioxide is causing climate change and it's also having a dramatic effect on the marine environment, making the sea more acid. The damage from rising acidity in the sea may prove to be even more of an immediate problem than climate change. Coral reefs could be wiped out within the next ten years - and that is just the tip of the rapidly melting iceberg. Two of the earth's most important biological systems - the climate and the oceans are at serious risk because of human activity
- It's caused by us
- It’s still not too late to limit the damage
How Global Warming changes the climate
To get an idea of how it works. imagine the world's climatic influences; great oceanic currents, jet streams, etc, are like a giant engine that powers weather systems around the planet.
Hell & High Water
At a time of increasing media scepticism and public apathy about climate change there's a growing body of evidence of harmful changes happening now.
The Greenhouse Effect
This article is written as a guide for school aged kids - but it is a useful primer for anyone not really sure about how these different areas relate to each other.
Climate change is Happening Now
“All extreme weather events are now subject to human influence,” said Dr. Peter Gleick, a climate & water scientist and president of the Pacific Institute, at a Capitol Hill briefing on Monday organized by the American Meteorological Society.
