Researchers reported huge plumes of methane making the sea "boil" over areas of a 100 meters or more. Huge volumes of methane - a gas with 30 times the warming potential of carbon dioxide - are frozen into the permafrost - if this is released in a warming world it could rapidly accelerate warming to dangerously high levels
